I came to lolita through the anime route, as well! Specifically, through Shaman King and the character Mari. Then I found the Kamikaze Girls novel and looked up BTSSB through that. I didn't actually wear lolita until a long while after that, though; there was a period of time where I'd forgotten about it, then rediscovered my love for it, and by that time I could actually afford to buy lolita. I'm not quite sure, actually! I think it was through the whole anime/general japanese culture phase, but I think the first time I was actually aware of lolita in a more practical sense was way back when B&N carried FRUiTS and GothLoli Bibles. I bought the english versions religiously (ha) but looking back they seem super out dated! Oh wow, I'm so jealous. By the time I got really into lolita they were already out of print and were being scalped like crazy. I didn't even realize those were sought-after! I bought them early on, as well, but I was under the impression that they weren't well-liked since they were discontinued.

It was 2006 and I was 13. I frequented GaiaOnline and I came across a video on someone's profile. It was Beast of Blood by Malice Mizer. I then discovered Mana (and cut my hair like his in that video, haha) and fell in love with the world of lolita. Since then I've been hooked. I think many of us have Mana to thank for introducing us to lolita, even if some of his outfits while he was in Malice Mizer were questionable, haha.

I discovered lolita through the cosplay and convention scene. Initially, I was really into the idea of cosplay so I started to frequent places like /cgl which is where I was first exposed to the fashion.
From there on I did a lot of stalking until I finally decided to take the plunge mid last year.

My friend brought the FRUiTS book to class one day and I was mesmerized! I tried searching for the brands listed there but "MILK" and "Pretty" didn't bring up many fashion related results so it took a while to find what I was looking for. Same. Fruits and Fresh Fruits got me into japanese fashion in general. I adored jfashion from afar and i wasnt particularly into lolita at first. From the streetsnaps i was more into Takuya Angel. This was way back in 2005-6.

For me, it started 12 years ago when the Fruits compilation book was published in English. Started off as an ita (yep) but when brand became more available to western countries I started to get better. It's been a long time and I still love this fashion as much as I did when I discovered in 2001.

They were discontinued because the US branch of the company that published them went out of business.

It was a few year ago, I believe, that I eventually made my way to /cgl/, and saw a kid's yoyo dress. I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever, so while I appreciated the dresses, it wasn't until I fell head over heals over Jane Marple's Stained Glass that I became hooked.

Hmmm, I'm not really sure! I haven't been in lolita that long (its been about a year), but I knew about Lolita from anime and manga. It wasn't until I went to college and met an actual lolita on campus that I really started thinking about starting a wardrobe. That combined with me getting a tumblr account really got me researching lolita.

How bad would it be if I said I honestly can't remember? It was well over 5 years ago I got my first exposure - I'm fairly certain it was from wandering around the internet too much.
I did however get back /into/ the fashion when I stumbled across a friend's tumblr and saw pictures of the fashion again.

I got into it when me and my friend wanted to "dress up as lolitas" like four or five years ago. So I started poking around and stumbled on places about how to actually do it right and how it wasn't a costume. I did my research and made my outfit (although it was still terrible because I can't sew worth shit) a lot better than it was going to be. After the convention I found more and more about it. I finally have been building a much more decent wardrobe that isn't just cheap stuff. My passion for it came back after being out of the loop for a few years, and absolutely fell back in love with it again.
